’Red Guard' Teeners Close Foreign Store

TOKYO (UP!) -Communist China's Red Guard teen-agers, under new government order* not to use force in their antiWestern campaign, closed a post-telegraph office and food store in the diplomatic section of Peking today.

In Hong Kong, a 80-year-old Catholic nun—one of eight terrorized by the youths in Peking and kicked out of China a* •'spies''—died this morning. One report said the -nuns had been beaten with bamboo sticks. Reports reaching Tokyo said a group of 80 Red Guard militants marched into the foreign residential area and closed the shops with a blue ieaJ and plastered the walls, with paper banners asking "sendee for whom'”’

The students, wearing identilying red arm bands, chanted slogans and denounced the diplomatic area as a '‘poisonous plant.” They also ridiculed! Chinese workers In the shops as servants "for foreign revisionism, capitalism and imperialism.” Reports from the Chinese capital said Red Guard demonstrators received the personal blessing of party Chairman Mao Tse-tung and other top leaders at a mass rally Wednesday night, but were told to “follow the way of reason” in their campaign to rid China of all foreign influences. Radio Peking said Communist Chinese Defense Minister Lin Piao told the youths to continue the “cultural revolution” which he praised as a force that has “washed out all of the dirty things from the old world and is making a new face for our nation.” Catholk sources in Honj Kong identified the nun who died as Sister Eamonn, bom Mary O’Sullivan in Cork, Ireland. Authorities at St. Theresa Hospital, where the 60 year-old nun had been rushed Wednesday shortly after arriv ing in the British colony, said she had been suffering from “extreme fatigue.” A hospital spokesman said the mm received the last rites of holy communion before she died. Sister Eamonn and seven other nuns were forced out of their Sacred Heart Academy In Peking by rampaging Red Guard mobs and expellee! from China as “spies.” Sister Eamonn collapsed at the Chinese town of Shunchum and was carried across the border into Hong Kong on a garbage cart. The official New China News Agency charged that the expelled nuns had carried out counter-revolutionary activities "under the cloak of religion.” It said the nuns had been "in the custody of Chinese personnel of public security” and the Red Guards from Aug. 28 until their expulsion two days later.
