Abstract: Zhu Yongjia’s experiences in the Cultural Revolution are unique. He was visible on the stage both when the curtain of the Cultural Revolution was up and when it was down. Therefore, his oral memoirs deserve serious attention. His personal accounts of the important events in the initial period of the Cultural Revolution are both informative and thought-provoking, in particular those with regard to such key figures as Zhang Chunqiao and Yao Wenyuan. As a historian, his oral memoirs are distinct by their narrations intermingled with insightful comments.
